Owain Train McGilvary - Seeing Red
12 July- 1 September 2024
We're pleased to present this solo exhibition by Owain Train McGilvary. Since 2022, the artist has been developing a project that takes 'The Three Crowns', which was previously North Wales’ only gay bar, as a starting point for unearthing a seemingly lost piece of queer Welsh history. Through interviews, drawing and reframing an informal archive of the bar, he presents this multi-media exhibition which pays homage to those who played an influential part to the LGBTQ+ scene in Bangor.
Owain Train McGilvary (b.1992) is an artist from Ynys Môn. Usually working with moving image and drawing, his projects look into the intricacies of language and image with an interest in reconfiguring existing archives and cross-disciplinary collaborations. Previous exhibitions include ‘I’m attended as a portal myself’, a duo exhibition with Bobbi Cameron as part of Glasgow International. He graduated from the MFA at The Glasgow School of Art (2019) and a BA(Hons) from Central Saint Martins (2015).
This exhibition is funded by Arts Council Wales.
