Sea Exhibition
Exhibition 8 June – 7 July
Earlier this year, we launched an open call for artworks on the theme ‘Sea’ to coincide with World Oceans Day on the 8th June 2024.
The time has arrived, and we’re thrilled to present this exhibition in collaboration with Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences. It incorporates a wide range of perspectives on the sea through films, prints, paintings, sculptures, poems, and material investigations. The diverse works include environmental and more-than-human perspectives, mythological and historical references as well as speculative readings. From frenzied sea birds and crabs to slimy rocks and sea walls, there are dynamic interpretations of topics such as biodiversity, climate change and the transience of our local coastal habitats.
To launch the exhibition and celebrate World Oceans Day, Pontio will host a rich programme of events, workshops, screenings and performances on Saturday 8th June which are free and open to all. Our partners at the School of Ocean Sciences will be present on the day to share their marine research, as well as North Wales Wildlife Trust who are launching their Ocean Literacy strategy. There will be connected creative workshops across the road at Storiel.
