Information

Welsh with English Subtitles

Pontio is proud to host a special preview of the Welsh-language film Effi o Blaenau, followed by a Q&A with acclaimed director Marc Evans (Mr Burton, House of America, Patagonia), in partnership with Met Film Distribution. The Q&A will be held in Welsh with live English translation, after the screening at 8:30pm.

Based on Gary Owen’s acclaimed monodrama Iphigenia in Splott, ‘Effi o Blaenau’ is Marc Evans’ cinematic adaptation set in North Wales. Effi (Leisa Gwenllian), longing to escape her struggling hometown, briefly glimpses hope after meeting injured soldier Lee. When reality sets in, she faces life as a single, unemployed mother-to-be, highlighting a stark social crisis with too few maternity wards and midwives. Leisa Gwenllian delivers a powerful performance as Effi.
