Representing Law Exhibition

2 - 31 September
Representing Law exhibition is being shown and has been commissioned as part of a Research Committee on the Sociology of Law Conference. Given the very apt theme of the conference, the conference committee decided there could be be no better an opportunity to envisage what representing law really means, than through artistic form.
A lot of us may actually think that law and art may be utterly different and cannot possibly imagine how the two may come together. But what kind of art form must a lawyer ensue when standing in court, other than pure performance, theatre, and entertainment? Are not the words of judgments poetry themselves? Is not art, and law, politics itself?
By thinking about forms of representing law, 10 local artists and 9 delegates of the conference have been drawn together, to bring you a fantastic array of photographic, installation, painted, etched, sculpted, poetic and sonic ways that the contributors have responded to the theme.
Curated by Dr Lucy Finchett-Maddock and Anna Monnereau.
