Jack, a mussel-bed worker in North Wales, whose expectation that his son Tom will join the family business is challenged by Tom’s refusal. As family tensions grow, the arrival of Daniel, a deckhand who reveals romantic feelings for Jack, forces him to confront his desires and identity. Set in a close-knit rural community shaped by church and fishery life, the novel explores masculinity, belonging, and forbidden desire.
